The anonymous British street artist, Banksy, unveiled his new sculpture on Thursday at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, England. The bust, titled Cardinal Sin, depicts a Roman Catholic priest with his face pixelated in tiles and is fixated alongside 17th Century religious art inside the gallery. ”I guess you could call it a Christmas present. At this time of year it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christianity - the lies, the corruption, the abuse,” Banksy says of the piece. See the full sculpture after the jump.
Our controversial cover asking, “Is God Gay?” was released on this date, 17 years ago. In line with the holidays, the cover features an illustration of Jesus Christ by Steven Johnson Leyba that states, ”Tolerance of homosexuals is religion’s new cross to bear,” followed by the Christmas conundrum “Last-Minute Holiday Shopping with Cher.” See a larger version after the jump.
